Why a Software Lab

A physical drone lab means airframes to repair, batteries to replace, propellers to reorder and a flying area to supervise. Drone Studio gives every student their own bench. They can push a motor past its thermal limit, detune a PID loop until the aircraft is unflyable, or lose a sensor mid-flight — and learn from it, repeatedly, at no cost.

Five Engineering Modules

Twenty-five guided experiments, each with its own theory, interactive simulation, live plots and assessment quiz.

Propulsion

Motors, propellers and power — from thrust curves to powertrain sizing.

  • P1 — Propeller–Motor Thrust Mapping
  • P2 — Disk Loading & Hover Power
  • P3 — Propeller Unloading in Forward Flight
  • P4 — ESC Thermal Headroom
  • P5 — Powertrain Sizing

Avionics & Control

Flight control, state estimation and guidance — the loops that keep it in the air.

  • A1 — PID Attitude Tuning
  • A2 — Altitude Hold & EKF
  • A3 — Yaw / Magnetometer
  • A4 — Waypoint Guidance
  • A5 — Failsafe & Sensor Dropout

Performance

Range, endurance and mission planning — what the aircraft can actually achieve.

  • PF1 — Power & Range
  • PF2 — Take-off / Landing Distance
  • PF3 — Mission Energy Planner
  • PF4 — Payload vs Endurance Trade-off
  • PF5 — Wind & Gust Impact

Structures

Arms, plates and landing gear — stress, deflection and vibration.

  • S1 — Arm Bending Structural Analysis
  • S2 — Propeller Structural Stress
  • S3 — Arm Vibration & BPF Resonance
  • S4 — Centre Plate Deflection
  • S5 — Landing Gear Buckling

AI / ML

Telemetry, vision and surrogate models applied to real drone problems.

  • AI1 — Telemetry Anomaly Detection
  • AI2 — Battery Health Estimator
  • AI3 — Landing Pad Detector
  • AI4 — Drone Swarm Simulation
  • AI5 — Tracking & Prediction

NexGen Tools

Standalone design and build tools that sit alongside the experiment modules.

  • Drone Designer
  • Wiring Trainer
  • Thrust Tester
  • Wind Tunnel
  • CoG Balancer & Stick Mixer Sim

What Ships With It

Built for a semester of teaching, not a one-off demonstration.

Lab Manuals

A typeset manual for every module, with the underlying theory, worked equations, procedure and expected results — ready to hand to students as coursework.

Assessment Quizzes

A dedicated quiz for every experiment plus a module-level quiz, so comprehension can be checked without setting a separate paper.

LabMate Assistant

An in-app assistant that answers questions about the experiment on screen, so a student who is stuck at 11pm is not blocked until the next lab session. Availability depends on licence type.

Who It's For

Aeronautical, mechanical, electronics and computer science departments running drone, UAV or mechatronics labs. Deployed per machine in a computer lab, it gives an entire cohort hands-on engineering work without the cost, supervision and airspace constraints of physical flying.

See It Running

We'll walk your department through the modules and answer questions on deployment and licensing.
